Purpose

To set expectations about what Personal Protective Equipment drivers are to use while in a Panorama depot yard.

📌
Workshop personnel have PPE requirements above and beyond those outlined in this procedure.

When to Use This SOP
  • When walking any exterior areas of a depot beyond reception.
  • When fuelling a vehicle at depot fuel bowsers.

  • Who Should Use This SOP

This procedure is specific to two classes of PPE and individuals:

  • Hi-Vis Vests applying to ANYONE walking around a depot yard – not only drivers.
  • Disposable gloves applying to anyone using the depot fuel bowsers to fuel a vehicle.

  • Tools and Resources Needed
  • Hi-Vis Vest
  • Disposable

  • Disposable Gloves

    Rationale

Wearing gloves while fuelling is important for both safety and professionalism reasons:

    • Fuel is a hazardous substance that should not make contact with your skin.
    • The smell of fuel is unpleasant for most passengers, and doesn’t contribute to the perception of our buses as clean environments.

    Procedure

    1. Before fuelling, put on a pair of the disposable gloves provided at the bowser

(If there’s no gloves present at the bowser please pop into Operations and grab a fresh box, leaving it at the bowser for the next driver.)

    2. Wear gloves for the entire fuelling procedure
    3. Once fuelling is complete remove the gloves and toss them in the bin provided.

    Hi-Vis Vests

    Rationale

There are giant vehicles driving through our yards. And we’re tiny humans. So hi-vis is important to help you be more readily spotted by drivers.

    Procedure

    1. If you are walking around in the yard you are required to wear a hi-vis at all times.
      1. This includes EVERYONE in every role, including visitors.
      2. The “yard” is anywhere that is not in the depot office or lounge or out front of reception
      3. A hi-vis vest will be issued as part of your uniform when you start.
    2. Hi-Vis vests must be removed while driving.
      1. Tuck your vest away next to your seat while driving.
      2. Do NOT put your hi-vis vest on the dashboard.
      3. Do NOT put your hi-vis vest over the back of your seat.
